HIV Oral Health – Lessons to Remember

Description
Oral Health for people with HIV is a great example of the importance of medical and dental integration. Whereas there are no differences in dental care for most people with HIV, communication between dental and medical providers is important if the patient has a low CD4 count (100 cells/ml3). This presentation will include a review of oral opportunistic infections and post exposure prophylaxis.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Articulate the impact of oral opportunistic infections in people with HIV
- Cite dental treatment considerations for people with HIV and how they differ or do not differ from the general population
- Define post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) after an exposure in the dental setting
- Diagnose the most common oral manifestations seen in association with HIV infection, including a focus on the role of HPV (human papillomavirus)
