Overview:
This talk reviews the clinical presentation and treatment of co-occurring drug use (particularly amphetamines) and sexual behavior. Biopsychosocial risk factors are reviewed, along with specific impact of various drugs on sexual functioning. Particular emphasis is given to dopamine-related changes as a result of the addictive process, which results in physiological tolerance and behavioral escalation in the search for ever-increasing intensity. The presentation concludes with an overview of best clinical practices.
